Twitter Chat on Mind and Body Approaches and Older Adults

April 29, 2015 2:00 p.m. ET
This month we're hosting a Twitter chat with the National Institute on Aging (NIA) about mind and body approaches and older adults. These approaches, including relaxation techniques and meditative exercise forms such as yoga, tai chi, and qi gong are being widely used by older Americans, both for fitness and relaxation, and because of perceived health benefits. We'll discuss what the research says about the science and safety of these approaches and answer your questions on the topic.
Joining the discussion will be:
  • David Shurtleff, Ph.D., NCCIH Deputy Director
  • Wen Chen, Ph.D., NCCIH Program Director, Basic and Mechanistic Research in Complementary and Integrative Health, Division of Extramural Research
We’ll be tweeting from @NIH_NCCIH and NIA will join us from @NIAGo4Life.
Additional participants will include: • The National Institutes of Health: @NIH • The Twitter handle for pain-related updates at the National Institutes of Health: @NIHPainResearch • Office on Women’s Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services: @womenshealth • Cleveland Clinic:@ClevelandClinic • Harvard Health Publications: @HarvardHealth • The Twitter handle for National Public Health Week, an initiative of the American Public Health Association: @NPHW • Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco: @UCSFOsher • Stanford Medicine Systems Neuroscience and Pain Lab: @StanfordPain

Join us as we host or participate in live online chats that cover a variety of health topics. If we’re hosting, we’ll be focusing on complementary health approaches for a specific health topic. An expert in scientific and health issues will be available to answer your questions. Dates, times, topics, and hashtags for our chats will be announced on this page and through Twitter and Facebook. If we’re participating in another organization’s chat, we’ll share the hashtag where the conversation is taking place.
